Statement by the “No to Antisemitism” Organization Condemning the Attack on a Christian Nun in Jerusalem

The “No to Antisemitism” organization expresses deep concern and strongly and unequivocally condemns the violent attack on a Christian nun in East Jerusalem.
According to reports, an individual with a religious appearance knocked the woman to the ground and, in an inhumane act, assaulted her while she lay defenseless. This behavior is not only a clear violation of human dignity, but also a direct attack on the fundamental principle of freedom of religion and peaceful coexistence among faiths.
We emphasize that such acts bear no relation to the authentic values of Judaism. Judaism stresses respect for human beings, the sanctity of life, and the dignity of others. The misuse of religious symbols to justify violence poses a serious danger to all religious communities and must be firmly confronted.
While expressing support for the victim of this attack, the “No to Antisemitism” organization calls on the relevant authorities in Israel to pursue this case with the utmost seriousness and bring the perpetrator or perpetrators to justice. It is also essential that more effective measures be taken to protect clergy members and pilgrims of all faiths in Jerusalem.
We further stress that combating antisemitism does not mean overlooking violent acts committed by individuals associated with the Jewish community. On the contrary, confronting such behavior honestly and responsibly is an integral part of the genuine fight against hatred, discrimination, and extremism in all its forms.
Jerusalem must remain a city for all religions—a city in which Jews, Christians, and Muslims can live and worship in full security, respect, and freedom. This reality was made possible by the will of the people of Israel following their victory in the June 1967 war.
